“Cactus Flower” is the story of the ugly duckling being turned into a swan — the crass flower girl of “Pygmalion” and “My Fair Lady” molded into a proper lady — and the magical change of a poor, mistreated step-sister transforming into an enviable princess in “Cinderella.”

The misunderstandings and mixed-up roles are a pure delight. All of this is like a French farce — which is exactly what “Cactus Flower” is based on —“Fleur de Cactus” by Pierre Barillet and Jean-Pierre Gredy, and adapted by Abe Burrows. “Cactus Flower” tells the story of a practical, efficient, dependable woman turning into an exciting, sexy, lovable creature — with a great deal of deception, confusion and humor — along the way.
